Sketchnotes from Tradecraft Mentor :: Design Research: the Most Powerful Tool in your Toolbox, with Mary Wharmby

How should designers think about User Research?

I had the pleasure of hearing some great answers in a mentor talk by Mary Wharmby, UX designer, leader and teacher. Mary spoke at Tradecraft in September 2014, and walked us through a series of approaches and techniques for conducting good user research.

My favorite part of her talk was her focus on empathy, emotion and understanding. Mary deeply understands how important purpose is to design…going beyond the UI and the tech to unpack the real human needs that a design must serve to be successful.

Below are my sketchnotes of the session. You can also view Mary’s slides on Slideshare. And you can follow Mary on Twitter!
