World Sketchnote Day 2019
Each year the sketchnoting community celebrates this day with the Pass The Sketchnote event. Participants across the world team up and “pass” a note, each member adding a visual element to the sketchnote. We post the work on Twitter under the hashtags #PassTheSketchnote and #SNDay2019.
The whole thing was coordinated via Twitter:
- The first participant creates a visual note, posts it and tags the next person on the team.
- The next person saves the image, adds a connection to the theme, idea or quote and a doodle, then posts on Twitter with the hashtag and tags the next person.
- All team members participate, repeating steps 2 & 3.
- The last person on the team uploads the final version to Twitter with the hashtage #SNDAY2019 and tags all members of the team.
I participated in two teams: Group 33 and Group 34; both teams had fabulous people.

Reflection
This was the first year I participated, and seeing all the flurry of activity on the hashtag was so inspiring! The best part was working with sketchnoters around the globe to make something and share visuals together.
I learned that many different styles can come together to create a coherent and fun sketchnote. I got to be the last one to sketch, so I tried to bring all the images together. It was a challenge, but super fun!
I was surprised at how quickly the whole day went…images were being posted and passed, and it was fun to watch the members of the team post the work that I would eventually contribute to. I also had fun making the animation of the process…I feel it’s a better documentation of the spirit of the event, more so than the static picture of the final image.
Next time I’ll only participate on one team…two was a little more involved than I expected, and I didn’t want to let anyone down. Next time I’ll work with one team so that I can really focus.
