Urban Sketching @ REI

The SF Bay Area Urban Sketchers headed to REI in Berkeley to get some viz on.
Holy crap there are a lot of things in that store. I was intrigued by the hanging backpacks, then skis. Then I tried a view down the central corridor with the canoes floating above.
In two hours, I managed to get down three scenes. Can’t wait to go back and give it another try.

You can check out work from the other sketchers on the SF-Sketchers Meetup album.
Reflection
I learned that empty backpacks have a universe of folds and creases, and by looking carefully, they all make sense. I learned that skiis stack in pairs and are held together with turbo-sized rubber bands. Also, skis have gotten wider since I last went 20+ years ago.
I was surprised by how hard it was to settle and pick something to focus on. The backpacks started as an act of desperation, then I became totally immersed.
Next time, I’d come with a plan. Focus on one kind of item, like all things biking or items smaller than my hand.
