ArborApril 09: Up into the Canopy

[09] Today’s prompt is Up into the Canopy
Observe a tree by looking up into the canopy. Draw slowly, noting the patterns of sun and shade as they move and change.
A beautiful day to be wandering the Albany Hill in Northern California. I sat under one of my favorite trees (not just the species…but the individual tree) and looked up and sketched. There was so much complexity…quite daunting. But I kept at it, noticing more about how the light danced through the leaves and the branches. How the branches clustered to form areas of density and areas of light. A much needed communing with the breath of a tree. Making a map helped me see the patterns more clearly.
