ArborApril 14: Scent-sational

Color interpretations of parts of an orange tree: flower, leaf, fruit.

[14] Today’s prompt is Scent-sational
Journal the scents and smells of a tree.

There’s something so deliciously personal about using color to document scent. It’s challenging to get at the essence of a scent experience with words, shapes, and colors, and it’s so fun to experiment. This orange tree is in bloom and fruiting and has a bouquet of beautiful smells! I was surprised at how jasminesque the flowers smell, and also how deep (almost murky) a new leaf smelled. This smellscape carries with it the memory of getting close and personal with this beloved tree.

Featured tree: Arizona Sweet Orange

Inspiration: Dr. Kate McLean-MacKenzie is a researcher who works with visualizing smell in novel and spacial ways.
