In April 2024 I researched and illustrated a daily native plant portrait in honor of National Native Plant Month in the U.S. It was magical to get to know these amazing plants and to celebrate their unique ways of being.
And now the project is a book!
Hot-off-the-press, it’s a new way to spread appreciation for these botanical beauties!
As the rains begin in the California Floristic Province, many of these plants are preparing to blossom. Here’s your guide to noticing, appreciating, and celebrating these magical life forms as they burst into bloom!

About the book
Bay Area Botanical is a full-color illustrated guide that introduces you to 26 plants native to the Bay Area of California. At 75 pages printed on 100% recycled paper, this book is knapsack-friendly and accessible for all ages. Use it as both a lighthearted reference and as a companion for walks, rambles, and hikes.
Each of the 26 native plants is featured with a brief description and a portrait. A Supplement includes a calendar of when to see each plant in full blooming splendor, and a glossary de-mystifies specific botanical and scientific terms.
Half science, half art, and all fun, this book was a blast to put together, and I hope it’s a fun and informative read!
